Ibanez debuted a lot of cool stuff at Namm 2016 this past weekend. In the pedal department, the Japanese manufacturer unveiled what can now be called a Mini series of compact stompboxes. The Mini Tubescreamer has been on the market for a while now, and the company decided to also offer their acclaimed Analog Delay, Chorus, and Super Metal stompboxes in the mini format as well.... Anyone heading to NAMM this year should make a point to swing by the Earthquaker Devices booth to see what the perennial Delicious Audio favorites have ramped up special for the show. With EIGHT new pedals on the docket, they effectively have a whole new line rolling out.
Among the new offerings, one that has my interest the piqued the most is a stackable dual fuzz pedal called the Spire Fuzz Doubler which emulates a combination of a vintage Rosac Nu Fuzz and the now out-of-production Dream Crusher. Either one of these Fuzz boxes alone from Earthquaker would be a win, but in a space saving combo it sounds like this unit could strip the paint off a radiator.... Click on the title for more

The latest addition to TC Electronic's Toneprint line of pedals is the Hyper Gravity Compressor, a very versatile compression circuit in a compact stompbox footprint. Perhaps one of the coolest features of this unit is the 'multi-band' function, a type of compression generally applied via outboard studio gear or plug-ins during the recording process.

We all know Electro Harmonix for their popular (and growing at breakneck speed) line of guitar pedals, but the Queens, NY based manufacturer has long been flirting with synthesizers too - we had the chance to toy around with one of their old Minisynthesizer at our 2014 Brooklyn Synth Expo.
Back in the late '70s they released a series of peculiar "pedal synths" based on monophonic analog circuits, including the Super Space Drum (optimized for percussive sounds) and the Crash Pad (optimized for electronic cymbal sounds).... Click on the title for more

Pigtronix has been at the forefront of innovative guitar pedal design for quite some time, and even though the New York based company in recent years has been shifting a lot of attention and resources to their freshly acquired amp line Supro, we are glad to report that the two new Echolution 2 stompboxes are nothing short of exciting and inspiring.
One of the most versatile delay pedals on the market, the Echolution 2 is capable of creating the most intricate delay sounds around, so much so that even the Edge would continue to find new sonic ground to explore.
The biggest update is to the firmware running the Echolution2 , and can be implemented into any of the company’s Echolution brand pedals. Augmented features include a freeze control (a looper-like function), MIDI sync, and pitch change options available via almost every effect parameter. As a big fan of reverb effects, I love to see what different stompbox manufacturers are coming up with, and even though I really appreciate "deep" pedals with lots of options for what they can offer, I'm often blown away by simple devices that do just one thing, but do it extremely well. As a big fan of reverb effects, I love to see what different stompbox manufacturers are coming up with, and even though I really appreciate "deep" pedals with lots of options for what they can offer, I'm often blown away by simple devices that do just one thing, but do it extremely well. 
If you belong to the category of guitarists who enjoy stompboxes that have the potential to inspire with their versatility and uniqueness, you should take a look at F-Pedals' RobotHolic. This is an interesting pedal that - quite surprisingly - manages to pack the following effects in a tiny (and truly good looking) 3.6" x 2" enclosure:
- Boost/Distortion circuit
- Analog-ringmod-resembling modulation effect
- "LOFI" mode - basically a high pass filter that emulates an old AM speaker
If that was not enough, the California based company's engineers also found room for a backlit mix knob and a connector for an external expression pedal, which affects the modulation's rate for cool sweeps and sci-fi tone shifts.
Like all the other offerings by F-Pedals, the RobotHolic comes in an Wireless F-Powered version, which uses built-in, custom designed, rechargeable and replaceable battery that provides steady power to the pedals through magnetic induction for approximately 20 hours once its fully charged. Both F-Pedals and F-Board can be used with a conventional power supply for a seamless integration with users’ existing set-up.

Another interesting Tubescreamer variation has come out of HDR Amplification's labs, by the name of the Bluerider Overdrive. Offering the beloved mid-range warmth and classic bite of the venerable Ibanez design, HDR has expanded on the idea to create a slightly more versatile and far-reaching overdrive.
The control scheme is quite familiar to pedal-junkies, with the standard 'Gain', 'Tone', and 'Level' controls. Also present is a gain switch to enable more harmonic content to pass through signal. While the Bluerider has plenty of saturation on tap, at cleaner settings it serves as a solid clean boost, coloring the signal in a very transparent way.... Click on the title for more
