Built in wonderful Denmark (which we visited just in July 2023!) the Homenoise More or Less Boost represents an innovative take on the frankly not-too-exciting but ever-useful boost circuit.

With only two knobs and two modes, this pedal can do much more to your tone than initially expected, mostly because of its two modes of operation, switchable via an internal switch (which we predict will become external in V2).

While in Boost mode the circuit acts as a regular booster pushing your signal up to 22db (via the more knob) with an extra treble control (+/- 22 dbs via the less knob); in Toneshaping Mode it becomes a Bass/Treble EQ pedal, pushing or taming frequencies just on the edge and outside of the guitar frequency range.

Thanks to this flexibility, the More or Less can be used not only to push your amp into the edge of breakup, but also as a fine-tuning equalizer, or as a buffer when using long cables.

Homenoise More or Less, Builder’s Notes

more can do more than it does

less does less than more but it does enough

A tuneable boost is a low noise gain stage that pushes the front of an amplifier or pedal in multiple ways by not being limited to only amplifying a single frequency range.

But the more or less is not just a boost circuit. Inside the pedal you’ll find a mode switch that opens up another range of sonic possibilities.

It’s also a hi-fi toneshaper designed to affect frequencies just on the edge of and outside the guitar frequency range, making it possible to shape and improve the tone of your guitar or setup anywhere in the signal chain. Connect it to the output of a fuzz or overdrive to use it as a versatile tone control for pedals that don’t have one. And at the end of the signal chain, it can be a line driver between your pedalboard and amplifier.

Even if it’s the only device between the guitar and amplifier, the more or less can function as a tool for adjusting the sound of a setup to the acoustics of a room, as a buffer when using long cables or simply for driving a tube amplifier into overdrive.

All this shows what the more or less was designed to be. A versatile tool that helps musicians shape and define their own unique sound.

Two Modes

The mode switch inside the more or less can be used to select either mode A or mode B which alters the way you can use the more dial.

mode A: toneshaping mode

  • more: -22dB to +22dB low frequencies
  • less: -22dB to +22dB high frequencies

mode B: boost mode

  • more: 0dB (unity) to +22dB full range
  • less: -22dB to +22dB high frequencies
