Best Mini Delay Pedals in 2023: Compare Price and Features

Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop V2 Overdrive

Fairfield Circuitry is a tiny oddball, boutique audio effects company from Canada. I note the canadian heritage in that the physical aesthetic choices as well as the functions of the effects are reminiscent of a backwoods experiment by bearded men with too much time and whiskey on their hands. Fairfield stompboxes come with no fancy graphics. They are housed in utilitarian chassis with a minimalist font that emphasises the power that these pedals have. The knobs and switches feel solid and well thought out as if to give confidence that these pedals can take a heavy band practice with musician stomping abound. I was given two pedals to review The Unpleasant Surprise and The Barbershop. ... Click on the title for more

JHS Muffaletta Muff-Style Fuzz

JHS-Pedals-Muffuletta-0003[1] One of the oldest and most beloved guitar pedals of all time is the Big Muff, a fuzz pedal introduced by Electro-Harmonix decades ago. This revered stompbox has certainly stood the test of time, and has seen a number of variations on the original design. If you love all those different versions, you should pay attention to Missouri based manufacturer JHS, since the folks who work there have created a truly amazing pedal in the Muffuletta, which contains 5 (yes, FIVE!) of the most beloved Big Muff designs into one pedal with an amazingly small footprint.... Husbandry’s Gear and Creative Process

Brooklyn's post-hardcore/metal quartet Husbandry sounded pretty darn heavy on 2016's debut full length "Fera," but the 2017's "Bad Weeds Never Die" EP takes things to an entirely new level, with metal influences seemingly taking over emo and post-punk ones. Their distorted guitars, in the latest record, are a lot more explosive and dynamic, so we thought we'd ask them a few questions about it.... Emi Nights’ (of Strawberry Runners) pedalboard

There’s a certain overarching sweetness that consumes the Denver/New York-based group, Strawberry Runners, but a close listen will reveal a far more complicated sound. The pop-driven arrangements and saccharine melodies support lyrics filled with darkness -a juxtaposition that's at once uplifting and upsetting. The band recently released a new EP entitled "In the Garden, In the Night." Emi Night, the singing-songwriting force behind this project, is very much into stompboxes and kindly answered a few questions.

Brooklyn band Birds talk about their Pedals

While the NYC scene seems to be crawling with psych bands, local rockers Birds tackle the genre in a way that sets them apart from the pack. Though the band is certainly taking cues from music of the past, their angular and distorted sliding guitars and bizarre vocal melodies suggest that they're digging through vinyl crates that have not been thoroughly picked through yet. With such a unique sound, we wanted to ask the band a bit about the driving forces surrounding it, and members Jess and Duane were nice enough to dig into to the stories surrounding their pedals for us. - Olivia Sisinni ... The pedals of Electric Eye’s Øystein Braut – in 2017

You'll be hard pressed to find a current band that sounds more psychedelic than Electric Eye, but the Norwegian group throughout the years has evolved far beyond that genre's mind altering confines. The band incorporates spacey sounds and fuzzy drones paired against a slick classic rock aesthetic. With those thick, textured, DELICIOUS sounds, how could we resist the temptation to ask them about the gear they used behind the scenes? Guitarist Øystein Braut was kind enough to give us the rundown on his impressively loaded, and yet compact board. - Olivia Sisinni

Fruit & Flowers’ Gear & Creative Process

If you are feeling in the mood for surfy and grungey sonic fun, we've got a band for ya: they are called Fruit & Flowers and they hail from Brooklyn, NY. The four-piece is technically skilled, with fast-paced and fleshed-out guitar parts (as heard in tracks like “Pick Fairy”) backed by a tight rhythm section, which too often is the missing link in emerging garagey bands. To top it all off, they layer dreaminess all over their tracks through lead vocalist Caroline’s saccharine soprano (and a fair amount of reverb, not too much though!). We heard the ladies dig guitar pedals, so we thought to ask them a few questions about them and other matters... - Lilly Milman... Click on the title for more

Arthur Moon’s Pedals, Synths & Creative Process

Avant-pop sextet,
Arthur Moon, recently released their sonorously boisterous debut EP, Our Head, and since then, the record's delicate, electro-tinged 5 tracks have been defiantly stuck in our heads. Recently, three of the band's members, Lora-Faye Åshuvud, Nick Lerman, and Marty Fowler, chatted with us about their creative process, and bit of the magic happening behind their gear that gives them such a distinct sound. [photo by Mia Min Yen]... Sharkmuffin’s Pedals & Creative Process

NYC-based Sharkmuffin creates punchy garage rock wrapped in a fuzzy, '60s cool that is at once feminine and fearless. On the heels of a new album release, the masterminds behind the band, Tarra Thiessen (guitar/vox) and Natalie Kirch (bass/vox) gave us an in-depth look into the meaning behind their latest tracks, and the delicious array of pedals they use to help create their frenetic tunes....
