bandicam-2016-09-16-16-39-42-4131 In the aughts, Devi Ever's boutique pedal manufacturer Devi Ever : FX built extreme sounding stompboxes (like the Shoe Gazer and the Hyperion) that became some kind of cult among guitarists into noisy and adventurous genres like noise rock and shoegazer.... Pavo Pavo’s Gear and Creative Process

13428659_1746723802208671_5870013646180779975_n1 With psychedelic leanings and spacey synths that could believably been beamed down from Pluto, Brooklyn-based Pavo Pavo has a sound that's both warm and familiar, and yet hard to place. The band seems to comfortably straddle between the deeper trenches of Brian Wilson's brain and the new face of NYC indie rock--whatever that may be. The quintet's tunes may be hazy and wistful, but there's a quirky liveliness embedded at the heart of their tracks that invites the listener back for more and warrants repeat plays. The band's founder Oliver Hill was kind enough to spend some time with Delicious Audio to shed some light on their creative process, and the gear that helps color their distinctive feel.... Minature Tigers’ Gear and Creative Process

14720612_10154757121309155_2432180885236369966_n1 Miniature Tigers is officially back with their first release since 2014. I Dreamt I Was A Cowboy, the new 11-track LP from the indie rock band is a short departure from the group's previous releases--often unpolished, organic, and lovingly displaying the dirt and hiccups that come from recording via couch surfing. Charlie Brand, the band's vocalist, guitarist, and one of the main forces spearheading the recording of the album, was kind enough to talk to us about the making of the record, his inspiration, and some of the gear that gives the band their distinctive feel.... Big Thief’s Buck Meek shows us the effects on his pedal board

bt Big Thief's debut album "Masterpiece" has been rocking our world this year - our sister blog named it The Deli NYC's Record of the Month back in July. We asked the band's guitarist Buck Meek (who also has a solo project we recommend checking out) to tell us about the stompboxes he uses when playing with the band, here's his very thorough response!
  1. TC Electronic PolyTune 2,
  2. Ernie Ball volume pedal (modded by JHS for no tone loss, with an active buffer),
  3. Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl (chorus/vibrato, for Magnatone type vibrato),
  4. Zvex Fat Fuzz Factory (octave fuzz),
  5. ... Click on the title for more

New FX Manufacturer: Friday Club Pedals

ed-450b-new-front_grande1 Newcomers to the pedal game Friday Club, out of Portland Oregon, have designed a solid line of 3 knob stompboxes. The line features almost exclusively distortions, fuzzes and overdrives: there one for all palates, including metal-heads (PD-100) and a screamer emulation (Green Menace). The only exception is their signature echo pedal, known as the ED-450b, and it’s based on the PT2399 chip. It offers the warmth of analog delay without the cascading darkness that comes with each additional repeat. Analog delays generally don’t have long delay times and the ED-450b maxes out at 450mS, which is a bit longer than many other similar pedals available.... Click on the title for more

Shana Falana’s Pedals and Creative Process

1150346_240427246105169_805809667_n[1] After perfecting their nuanced sound via touring and single releases, the shoegaze duo, Shana Falana, impressed critics with a 2015 debut LP titled Set Your Lightning Fire Free. Follow-up album, Here Comes the Wave is scheduled for a fall release later this year. The band's sound hits all the right sensory marks dealing in positive wonderment and a sense of discovery. Vocals, as sung by singer/guitarist Shana, soar over chiming guitars and tom-tom drums, all of which keep pace with affected, drone-y guitars. Here's Shana to re-cap the techie and creative side of things.... Click on the title for more

Cloud Becomes Your Hand’s gear and creative process

13533363_602981216533308_2979982910698234528_n[1] NYC's Cloud Becomes Your Hand's creative potential is on full display in their sophomore album "Rest In Flea," a multi-colored sonic adventure released by intrepid Queens label Northern Spy, home to an enviable collection of NYC's best experimental talents of all ages. But the record, a brilliantly quirky but very musical collage of robotic numbers, psychedelia and musical deconstruction, doesn't tell the whole story. With electronic xylophone, clarinet and electric violin rounding up their drum/bass/guitar sonic backbone, the sextet offers a monstrously tight live show featuring perfectly choreographed movements and sublime moments of absurdity, reminiscent of a DIY blend of Devo, Wire and The Residents.... AJ Peat Pedals’ Screaming Flamingo and Dirty Buzzard

12294792_454398514750223_2913904229537690380_n[1] Orange County boutique manufacturer AJ Peat, owned and founded by Luthier and self-described tinkerer Andrew James Peat, builds guitars, effect pedals and other signature audio devices. At the 2016 Summer NAMM show in Nashville his pedals were on display in the Cusack/Mojo Hand booth. This was due to the fact that Jon Cusack offered to help AJ design non-hand-built versions of Peat's effects. We actually had a chance to talk to AJ directly about this and he was so happy about the results he was almost questioning why he stuck to hand building for so long: "the new, mass built designs sound identical to their hand built counterparts"- he said. Surely Jon Cusack's engineering brain came in handy to pull off this accomplishment.... Click on the title for more
