Born as a one-knob hybrid Rat/HM-2 circuit (with the distortion of the former running into the tone stack of the latter), the Idiotbox Redrum – with its Kubrick-inspired name and graphics – was recently updated to V2, which provides more control without losing any of the original murderous tone.
The Drive knob is inherited from V1 and controls the amount of distortion, joined in V2 by a Grind control that delivers a variety of tonal options. The new Level knob allows better interaction with the input stage of your amp.
There is also an internal DIP switch bank that allows tweaking the maximum Low and High settings of the tone stack.
This is a loud and punchy distortion that can deliver useable tones also at lower gain settings, but definitely shines when it’s maxed out.
