Based on a circuit using two LM386 power amp chips, the 386 is a high-gain distortion with a High filter borrowed from the RAT circuit (including the reversed operation with brightest setting all the way ccw).
According to the builder, the 386 can get you “super hairy distortion with single-coil pickups, metal-sounding with humbuckers.”
