Arthur Moon’s Pedals, Synths & Creative Process

Avant-pop sextet,
Arthur Moon, recently released their sonorously boisterous debut EP, Our Head, and since then, the record's delicate, electro-tinged 5 tracks have been defiantly stuck in our heads. Recently, three of the band's members, Lora-Faye Åshuvud, Nick Lerman, and Marty Fowler, chatted with us about their creative process, and bit of the magic happening behind their gear that gives them such a distinct sound. [photo by Mia Min Yen]... Sharkmuffin’s Pedals & Creative Process

NYC-based Sharkmuffin creates punchy garage rock wrapped in a fuzzy, '60s cool that is at once feminine and fearless. On the heels of a new album release, the masterminds behind the band, Tarra Thiessen (guitar/vox) and Natalie Kirch (bass/vox) gave us an in-depth look into the meaning behind their latest tracks, and the delicious array of pedals they use to help create their frenetic tunes.... Field Mouse – Q&A about Pedals and the Creative Process

Philly and NYC-based Field Mouse have been known for their dreamy, shoegazey tunes, but while their hook filled songwriting is still on full display on their latest album, "Episodic," the five-piece's sound has evolved in a punchier direction, which is a bit more barefaced, and less shrouded by layers of fuzz and noise. We recently spoke to the band about the tonal shift, and what kind of gear goes into the making of their music.... Click on the title for more

Bellows talk about their music, guitars, pedals & synths

Bellows is the bedroom project of Brooklyn songwriter/guitarist/producer Oliver Kalb, an ex member of now defunct NYC group The Epochs, a little known band that released some very interesting music back in the aughts. Active with this solo project since the beginning of the decade, Oliver has developed a sound that's at once melodic, edgy and delicately textured. [Photo by Richard Gin]... Color Tongue Pedals & Creative Process

Color Tongue is a spacey, indie-psych rock band hailing from Brooklyn. Their latest release, Sprouts, is 8 tracks of inventive, sometimes atmospheric tracks, that while feeling expansive, ground itself with both its fun and infectious qualities. With such a myriad of different sounds coming from their latest record, we were curious to hear the band talk a little about their creative process, and of course, their gear.... Brooklyn’s The Boobies talk about Pedals

Brooklyn's own The Boobies are a garage pop four-piece with some instant-earworm songwriting chops, but don't let that fool you---the group isn't afraid to get dirty and bare their fangs when they mean it. With the recent release of their single, "Children of the Dark Art,"  the band agreed to give the Deli a peek at what goes into their songwriting process, and what gear they're currently using to achieve their distinctive sound. - Olivia Sisinni ... The Luyas’ synth and pedal arsenal

With ethereal vocals, and thick, multi-layered instrumentals, The Luyas craft the type of songs that yield new musical discoveries on each pass. Their dreamy indie/psych, engaging lyricism, and sometimes enigmatic instrumentation are well deserving of repeat listens, but even after doing so, it might be hard to puzzle out exactly what instruments are doing what, and how the artists coax out the sounds that end up in the finished product. Luckily for us, band multi-instrumentalist Pietro Amato peeled back the curtain and gave us a thorough rundown of his current set up. ... Click on the title for more

James Supercave’s favorite pedal and synth

15541278_1023578021104093_5553702689792544543_n[1] After winning The Deli's Best of 2015 LA Poll for Emerging Artist, in 2016 James Supercave went on to deliver on that "promise" with their perfect 2016 full length debut 'Better Strange.' This is one of those bands able to marry, in their songs, utter catchiness with a tense darkness and an overall enigmatic aura. We asked them to tell us about their favorite pedals and synths, and this is what we got.... Click on the title for more

Lola Colt’s guitar pedals

lolacolt

London-based sextet,
Lola Colt, is moody, enigmatic, and offer such a palpable, otherworldly music that it's easy to find yourself swept up in their sound and tumbling down dark corridors led by a slew of fuzzy guitars, soaring melodic swells, and a set of siren-like vocals. With such a layered, dense sound, we here at the Deli were really curious about what was going on under the hood. Fortunately for us, guitarist Matt Loft tackled our questions and gave us a pedal-by-pedal takedown of his current set up.

Kassassin Street’s Pedals, Synths and Creative Process

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uyYOZ7lXs4 Hailing from the UK's Southsea region, Kassassin Street brings a refreshingly breezy approach to psychedelia, with a danceability factor that will intrigue music fans nostalgic of the glorious psych pop British bands of the late '80s and early '90s, from the Charlatans to The Stone Roses to Happy Mondays. Throughout their still few releases (two singles and one EP to date since 2015) the quintet's sound has been evolving in a more atmospheric and complex direction, where synths and effects cover a growing role - and that's precisely why we asked them to tell us about them!... Giraffes? Giraffes! – Pedals & Creative Process

girafffes
Western MA-based
GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES!  is one of those bands crafting deliciously head-spinning math-rock licks so labyrinthine, that you'd imagine it'd be tough for even a full four or five piece band to execute. So, when you hear that their music is the work of solely Joseph Andreoli (guitar) and Kenneth Topham (drums), it's more than a little dizzying to think about how the duo manages to pull it off. Luckily for us, Joesph was kind enough to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the pedals he uses to create GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! expansive sound.... Click on the title for more

Doom Metal Band, King Woman, Talks about Guitar and Bass Pedals

kw-boards If the ground were to one day crack open, and the sounds of Tartarus began to seep out of the earth, I'd like to imagine the hellish cacophony would sound a bit like King Woman. The San Francisco-based four-piece crafts the sort of doom metal that seems to herald the bridging of our dimension and the underworld. Kristina Esfandiari's vocals envelop the band's tracks with the precision of a hushed, siren song, while the band--composed of Colin Gallagher on guitar, Peter Arensdorf on bass and Joey Raygoza on drums--punctuate her ethereal singing with fuzzy, dark soundscapes and angular riffs. On the heels of their soon-to-be-released album, Created in the Image of Suffering, Collin and Peter were kind enough to share their current pedal set ups, and the techniques they used to get the visceral sounds heard on the album....
