In the last few years, Adrian Thorpy has developed a rock-solid reputation for his pedal design, and the new ThorpyFX The BoneYard Fuzz is bound to find many estimators among the guitarists who have an appreciation for Tone Bender-inspired pedals.
This pedal is the result of many years spent playing, testing and tweaking all of the various Tone Bender vintage pedals and clones in order to create a pedal that could replicate a wide range of bender-style tones.
Featuring top-notch components like 1% metal film resistors, Wima and Panasonic capacitors, and Neutrik jacks, the BoneYard Fuzz is a high-end fuzz based on a three (rare) Germanium transistor design, although the Mode toggle allows you to just use two of them, just like in the early MkI and MKI.V original versions of the Tone Bender.
While Level, Attack and Tone knobs deliver predictable results, the Feed knob is the little secret weapon here, affecting the voltage of the pedal and therefore the quality of the fuzz’s character.
The end result is a compact fuzz pedal so versatile that – in all likelihood – will allow players to create the bender-style fuzz tone they hear in their heads. That, at least, was Adrian Thorpy’s goal all along.
Here are the YouTubers’ videos of the ThorpyFX The BoneYard.
ThorpyFX The BoneYard Fuzz, Builder’s Notes
This is THE BONEYARD FUZZ. To cut a long story short, this is my interpretation of what the ultimate Tonebender™ would sound like. I wanted one pedal to be able to cover off all the bender™ variants in one small pedalboard friendly footprint. THE BONEYARD is designed to provide you with a supremely versatile foot-switchable vintage germanium fuzz pedal that evokes the sounds of everything from 1960s forward… a true chameleon of a fuzz pedal.
THE BONEYARD is a culmination of many years playing, testing and adjusting all of the various bender™ variants. The aim of the pedal is to allow customers to choose their own tonal palette, in essence their own flavour of bender™. This new version expands on that legacy to deliver more volume, lower noise, more flexibility all in a much smaller pedalboard friendly footprint.
Internally the pedal is immaculately built using premium 1% metalfilm resistors, Wima and Panasonic capacitors, and Neutrik jacks. These are the crème de la crème of the electronics world and when coupled with a robust gold plated PCB and dust sealed potentiometers the recipe is as good as it can possibly be
We cant make many of these as it took me several years to collect the transistors needed for this run. Grab one whilst they are available.
