The Old Blood Noise Black Fountain is a delay that emulates vintage echo devices based on the short-lived but full of character “oil can” technology from the ’50s, a Ry Cooder’s favorite. In this pedal, the Fluid control adds those devices’ typical dark modulation on the repeats, originally generated by processing the instrument’s signal through actual oil.
Delivering from 30ms to around 1 second of delay, the Fountain has three modes, selectable through the central toggle switch:
- Modern mode emulates the classic long delay of oil can units,
- Organ Tone mode is based on other more recent units featuring shorter delay.
- Vintage mode is similar in function and repeat range to the Modern mode, but has a darker, grittier and grainier feel to the repeats.
The brand new V3 adds tap tempo and three subdivisions through an extra toggle switch. As an added creative feature, holding the Tap footswitch will momentarily maximize feedback.

Black Fountain V3 features: Tap tempo: set your tempo on the fly with two taps of a footswitch, and subdivide that tempo into quarter, eighth, or triplet notes Hidden function: hold the Tap footswitch to momentarily maximize feedback, leading to a nearly sound-on-sound effect Expression control: use an expressional pedal to control Time, Feedback, or both simultaneously Expanded delay time: all the way down to around 30ms and up to around 1s Modern, Organ, and Vintage mode give three different takes on the voice of the delay, and Fluid, Mix, Time, and Feedback knobs give control over the elements
