The trend of (stomp)boxing guitar amps has been gaining momentum since the turn of the decade, and the Soldano SLO Pedal is the latest release in this direction, encapsulating the sound of one of the most sought-after (and expensive) modern high-gain amps.
Based on a cascading-gain-stage circuit, the SLO (as in Super Lead Overdrive) line of amps by the Los Angeles-based builder is known and loved for its detailed and harmonically rich sound, and this pedal version accurately recreates that character in a compact case with six knobs. Early adopters include Edward Van Halen, Mark Knopfler, Mick Mars and even Lou Reed, just to mention a few superstar guitarists.
While the SLO amps have a Clean and an Overdrive channel, the pedal has only one channel voiced after the latter, with similar controls for Volume, Presence, Gain, and a 3-way EQ section.
The amps’ signature Depth control, which is basically a second tone knob for the low end, becomes in the pedal a Deep switch, which adds fixed extra depth to the signal.
