After years of development, Chicago-based rock band Pet Symmetry and Baltimore effects manufacturer Damnation Audio have unveiled BIG, a purpose-built bass pedal (that also works well on guitars) designed to deliver high-impact low-end tones in a single unit.
The collaboration stems from guitarist/bassist Evan Weiss’ longtime reliance on a rare Muff-style fuzz paired with an always-on clean boost—a combination heard across his recordings, including Pet Symmetry’s latest album, “FUTURE PAST LIFE”.
BIG consolidates Weiss’ core bass tone into one enclosure, offering:
- A Muff-inspired fuzz circuit for thick, saturated distortion
- A clean boost (switchable) to maintain low-end clarity
- 9V or 18V operation, the latter providing additional headroom and gain
The pedal aims to serve bassists and guitarists seeking versatile dirt tones without sacrificing low-end definition, through a simplified control set for quick, stage-ready adjustments rather than intricate tweaking.
