Created through a collaboration between Electronic Audio Experiments and Boston indie band Pile, Mirror House is a pitch-shifting pedal that creates two pitch-shifted versions of your input signal, moving in opposite directions for unique sonic results.
The resulting effects range from subtle detuning and chorus to bizarre microtonal clusters, dissonant harmonies, and dynamic glissandos. Pitch shifts can be applied statically or dynamically, depending on which of the 3 modes is selected.
Detune mode offers a semitone range, while Shift mode is quantized up to an octave in both directions. They both respond dynamically to the performance via an envelop, while the new Flutter mode is similar to Detune, but applies the effect following a random LFO.
New additions in Version 2 are improved envelope sensitivity and lower noise.
Here’s the description of what the knob controls do:
-
Mix: Adjusts the balance between dry and pitch-shifted signals. Fully clockwise removes the dry signal entirely.
-
Amount: Controls the intensity of static pitch shifting—turning it up moves one voice higher and the other lower in pitch.
-
Animate: Adds modulation to the Amount control. In Shift and Detune modes, it responds to your playing dynamics (envelope-based); in Flutter mode, it uses a random LFO.
-
Voices: Sets the blend between the higher and lower pitch-shifted voices. Center gives an equal mix; turning it left or right emphasizes one voice and affects how the modulation responds.
Whether you’re into lush textures or chaotic dissonance, Mirror House offers a playful and provocative toolkit for adventurous musicians.
