The brainchild of Berlin-based guitarist/producer Ed East, 4D Pedals is a new manufacturer building devices that are undoubtedly stellar: a series of affordable, star-shaped mini-pedals with only one knob and one footswitch.
The 4D Pedals Red Star Distortion is their take on the classic dirt box, with the single control dealing with gain duties. The circuit was optimized for a sweet spot tonal response that allows for a “less is more” approach.
The star-shaped case design, created through 3D printing, is a welcome and exciting departure from the usual rectangular shapes – who wouldn’t want to push that button on the red star pedal when they see it on a board full of boring square devices?
The other two pedals in this series are a Blues Driver-inspired overdrive (blue in color, of course) and a (black) Fuzz Face-style fuzz.
Hear how it sounds in the videos below.
Guitarists living in and around Berlin will be able to try the 4D Pedals at our inaugural Berlin Stompbox Exhibit.
