Based on the classic Tube Screamer, the TWA Chemical Z is a dual overdrive pedal designed by Japanese engineer Susumu Tamura, who was actually the original creator of that iconic green overdrive.
The peculiar trait of this pedal is that it’s a TS variant tuned for heavy guitarists, featuring a rare Op Amp referred to as the “Magic IC” found in limited runs of the TS808, and combining elements of the Maxon OD808, OD808X, and APEX808, with the latter’s circuit being the main source of inspiration.
Crunchy but focused, aggressive yet articulate, the Chemical Z dual overdrive offers also an alternate set of clipping diodes via the second footswitch based on Panasonic DA2S00100L diodes producing more gain, more output, and slightly pushing the mid lows.
