Based out of Italy Tefi Vintage Lab is one of the most interesting up-and-coming pedal builders, laser focused on producing creative stompboxes full of character and charm. Their latest announcement, Malinconia (Italian for Melancholy), is a lo-fi pedal simulating all the artifacts of the analog era.
Cleverly split into three sections, the Malinconia allows the player to introduce the following lofi effects:
- Vinyl Artifacts: the section on the left, wrapped vertically under the Warp label, will add a vynil-like modulation effect through the Wobbling and Warp Depth knobs.
- Tube Character: the section on the right, wrapped vertically under the Volume label, adds Volume and Saturation emulating the behavior of a valve.
- Middle Section: the four controls in the central section of the pedal deal with EQ (Filter and Bass Cut) and the amount of Warp (Noise level and Speed).
Every single control was designed to create musical-sounding lo-fi results, rather than simple tone enhancements, emulating the character conveyed to the tone by vintage equipment that still inspires so many musicians.
