Strymon Mobius Multi-Modulation Pedal

Strymon is a company that focuses heavily on... getting it right. They use powerful DSP processing to create pedals that echo and sometimes surpass the most fabulous designs of the past, but with a modern spin of course. I reviewed the TimeLine a while back and gave an extremely detailed and long winded review. Needless to say I loved the pedal and its vast feature set. This time I have the TimeLine's modulation-based counterpart, Mobius, on my bench for review. ... Click on the title for more

Coppersound Polaris Vibrato / Chorus

$199, Coppersound Polaris Analog Chorus/Vibrato "Polaris is a chorus/vibrato inspired by the original EHX Small Clone. A Small Clone chorus pedal has resided in the shoppe since it’s inception. With its smooth modulation and simple controls, it was a great starting point. At the heart of Polaris resides an MN3007 BBD chip. The same chip found in the original Small Clone. After recreating the circuit in a breadboard, we moved forward from there. We started by replacing the depth switch in favour of a knob. This allows for better control of the modulation depth. Following in the steps of Daedalus, we incorporated a second depth knob that is selectable via the secondary footswitch." More info here.... Click on the title for more

Featured Pedal: Big Tone Brewery’s Maggie Tremolo/Vibrato

Keith Vonderhulls, the mind behind the beloved Build Your Own Clone idea, has launched another guitar pedal-related company called Big Tone Brewery.  One of their best designs comes in the form of a stereo vibrato – dubbed the Maggie. Designed as an emulation of the legendary Fender Magnatone 280 in mind, the Maggie offers simple controls, and very warm analog tones.... Click on the title for more

Featured pedal: Dirty Boy Shifty

516d71_3fbc41ad411f4de88be08a033b2dcaa6[1] The California based stompbox manufacturer Dirty Boy Pedals bring an interesting back story to the boutique pedal game. The company was founded by Alex Saraceno - the father of session ace and former Poison guitarist, Blues Saraceno. Dirty Boy aims to create only high end handmade pedals for the most discerning player, and Blues serves as the primary spokesman and demo player. Most of Dirty Boy’s prices range anywhere from $375 to $525, so we are talking about a pro (or Wall Street) budget here, but keep in mind these are small run individually tested boxes.... Oldies but goldies: BBE Mind Bender MB 2 Vibrato/Chorus

I got my BBE MB-2 on the cheap from Musician’s Friend’s “Stupid Deal of the Day.” So while I paid $49 for it, it’s still a value at $149 as you’re getting 2 vintage analog effects for the price of one, and BBE quality. Its got that sexy metal smell (at least until dripped on by months of sweat and beer) that gets me giddy in the same way the warmed-up tubes in my amp do. ... Click on the title for more

Chase Bliss Audio Warped Vinyl

We continue our look at interesting if not bizarre pedals that try to push the limits of what a stompbox can do. The next one on the list is the Chase Bliss Audio Warped Vinyl, an analog pedal that promises to fulfill all your analog, vibrato and chorus desires. For starters the sheer number of controls on this pedal merit its inclusion here: 6 knobs, 4 mini-toggles, 2 footswitches (one for tap tempo) and an astounding 16 dip switches - all in a regular size case! Once you start dialing in tones you can achieve everything from subtle chorus to rhythmically complex vibrato, where all matters of pitch, attack, decay and depth can be twisted and deformed.  ...
