With the Dystorpia pedal, Eurorack brand Noise Engineering is entering the pedal market with a stompbox inspired by their modular line: it’s a versatile and original fuzzstortion circuit that does – among other things – wavefolding.
The circuit blends two distortion circuits:
- Fold is the wavefolding side of it that produces a nasty and gnarly distortion.
- Pura is a multi-band rectifier that adds a harmonic fuzz.
These two knobs alone, together with the Gain control that sets the amount of saturation, open up already a host of sonic possibilities, but the Dystorpia also offers extra sculpting and tonal features:
- The Tone and Mid Band controls set respectively the overall EQ and the mid focus, allowing for cutting or more hollow tones, depending on the needs.
- The DOOM switch adds a sub-octave to your signal or creates a blown-sub effect.
- An extra 3-way toggle on the left turns on a Gate to silence unwanted noise, or a clever Dynamic Circuit that shapes the output to match the dynamics of the input – therefore delivering a truly uncompressed and touch-sensitive distortion or fuzz!
