The Amplified Nation Bigger Bloom follows in the footsteps of the Big Bloom and the Double Bloom, part of a line of hand-made Dumble-style overdrives built by a family-run business (Taylor Cox and his wife Alyson) based in Boston, MA, whose main focus is high-end guitar amps.
With its $479 price tag, The Bigger Bloom meets the standards of high-end gear, being built with the utmost quality components.
It replicates the tone of a Dumble Overdrive Special, with its smooth and singing sustains, sacrificing a few controls but keeping the beloved Jazz-Rock toggle. The former scoops out the mids a bit, smoothing out the sound, while the latter delivers a more aggressive sound with increased gain.
This new Bloom version (the only one currently in production) adds slightly more gain and pronounced mids to the tone compared with the original Big Bloom, with more clarity at higher gain settings and a more pronounced and punchy attack.
The Accent knob controls the high end while Tone sets the amount of mids.
While it works with all kinds of pickups, the Big Bloom excels with a Les Paul–style guitar. The humbuckers tame some of the bite of the pedal.
