The Eau Clair Thunder fuzz may as well be the pedal that put Wisconsin’s pedal builder Dwarfcraft Devices on the map in the early aughts. It’s a Muff-style fuzz box with three footswitches and some pretty unusual controls (in particular for those years, when the “stompbox madness” was just about to begin).
The company is now announcing a more compact and streamlined limited run of an Eau Claire Thunder Gold Standard, stripped of the feedback loop section (Feedback footswitch and Feedback Tune knob).
The Gold Standard version also features a slightly different circuit with vintage, hand-sourced components that only allowed for 70 units to be manufactured. Its sound, according to the builder, is not as extreme as the original, but more detailed and “woolly.”
