Guitar Pedal Reviews: Electro-Harmonix Talking Pedal

Electro-Harmonix is definitely one of the more seasoned names in the pedal manufacturing business. They've been making effects pedals since the late '60s and continue to be one of the frontrunners in design and innovation. This time we have here the EHX Talking Pedal Vocal Formant Wah with Fuzz. The Talking Pedal brings vocal expression to the guitar player and uses the proprietary design shared by all of EHX’s Next Step Effects. I reviewed another pedal of this series, The Crying Tone, a little while back.... Click on the title for more

Another year, another NAMM convention. Every January the National Association of Music Merchants sets up shop at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA and provides thousands of vendors with the opportunity to show off their goods and/or services. Pedal News: Ashdown Dr. Green Bass FX Pedals

I love the bass guitar! These pedals look super cool and seem to have a quality build. Hidden away in the Essex countryside, Dr. Green has been designing and building world class guitar and bass amplifiers in the UK for over 20 years. Now in conjunction with bass amplifier giants Ashdown Engineering, he has produced a range of hand-made, boutique pedals that stand out from the crowd in both appearance and tone.... Guitar Pedal News: Earthquaker Devices’ Disaster Transport SR and Warden Optical Compressor

Just in time for NAMM 2013 we have a few new pedals coming from Earthquaker Devices, The Disaster Transport Sr and The Warden Optical Compressor. The Disaster Transport looks interesting mainly due to two independent delays and the claim for lo-fi sounds. I am also intrigued by an Optical Compressor for guitar in the form of a pedal as  the term Optical Compression is usually associated with compressors you'd find in a professional recording set up.... Guitar Pedal News: Electro-Harmonix Hog 2 and Hog 2 Foot Controller

Electro-Harmonix has something new for us. Looks pretty snazzy! The award winning HOG (Harmonic Octave Generator) earned kudos from players and reviewers alike because of its ability to generate ten, totally polyphonic and glitch free voices ranging from two octaves below to four above the instrument’s pitch-all without the need for a special pickup or instrument mods of any kind.... Pedal Review: IK Multimedia iRig Stomp

Amp modeling is one of the coolest developments in guitar technology in recent years. One of the front runners continues to be IK Multimedia who have been designing amp modeling software since 2002. Their AmpliTube package has continued to grow and has now jumped platforms to include iOS functionality on iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. IK has also developed hardware to integrate with its software including the original iRig and now the iRig Stomp interface. I was sent an iRig Stomp for review and I was excited to dig in and get my iPhone guitar jam on.... Click on the title for more

Pedal News: Fender Runaway Feedback Pedal

I am a sucker for feedback sounds like any true child of the 90's. This pedal looks interesting. I have used Softube's Acoustic Feedback plug-in and I believe this pedal is probably similar. Very cool effect for instilling a little low volume chaos. Here's some info about it plus a interesting video at the bottom that showcases the creative potential of this thing. - Gus Green... Pedal Review: TC Electronic Flashback X4 Delay/Looper

Delay is an effect in which the input signal is recorded to a storage medium then played back some time later. The amount of time it takes for the signal to be played back is typically variable and often times the signal is fed back into the signal path so that you keep getting fading repeats that simulate an echo. The early means of storage and playback were tape machines playing tape loops of various lengths with controls for adjusting the record and playback heads so that the delay time could be manipulated to fit the tune. The first delay machines were commercially available in the fifties.... Click on the title for more

The Babies and the Recording Process

The Babies, who are a bit of a "super band" consisting of key members of both The Vivian Girls (Singer/Guitarist-Cassie Ramone) and Woods (Bassist-Kevin Morby), seem to have polished up their sound this time around with their 2012 sophomore release "Our House on the Hill". Cassie and Kevin took some time to answer a few questions we had about their recording process. Here's what they had to say:... Click on the title for more
