If, at first sight, you thought that the Fuzzrocious Tyrannochorus was a traditional four-knob chorus pedal, welcome to the club. This device is actually a fuzz embedded in a chorus circuit, or, to use the words of the NJ-based builder, a “chorus with gated fuzz in wet loop.”
That means that the fuzz only affects the wet chorus signal since a chorus effect always requires part of the dry sound to be mixed with the modulated one (removing that dry sound will give you a vibrato effect).
The controls are very straightforward, with knobs for Rate, Feedback and Tone for the chorus and just a Fuzz Volume for the amount and saturation of the gated fuzz, which can produce borderline overdriven tones at lower settings.
The fuzz can be engaged or disengaged via a separate Fuzz footswitch, which allows you to use this pedal as a clean, traditional chorus pedal – while on the other hand, the fuzz can’t be used without chorus.
However, there’s a host of under-the-hood controls accessible by removing the pedals’ back plate: these are trim pots that allow the user to fine tune Depth control (2 controls), Blend, and Fuzz Tone.
The most peculiar control, however, is the top footswitch, a placement we rarely see, which momentarily sends the chorus’ rate/speed to max with results between the fluttery and the quirky, depending on your settings.

Fuzzrocious Tyrannochorus, Builder’s Notes
(Chorus with gated fuzz in wet loop)
TYRANNOCHORUS is Fuzzrocious’ second big foray into modulation. A normal chorus would be boring, so we made it more “Fuzzrocious.” We’ve squeezed so much into a small 1590BB enclosure to save users space on their pedalboards and maximizing the features one needs to sound unique and unlike any other chorus in the pedal world! A gated fuzz sits INSIDE the wet loop of a lush, deep chorus yielding a chewy, sputtery feel and leaving your cleans clean. As your signal sustains, then fades, the gated fuzz clamps down and spits it out.
The most important feature is the momentary footswitch at the top of the pedal. Sitting above the pots/knobs, one can hold this switch down to send the chorus rate into fluttery, spinny, choppy waves. There is SO much to do with this chorus and we can’t wait to see/hear what you’ll make with it!
Features
- GATED FUZZ: We’ve placed a gated fuzz in the wet loop of the chorus which can be turned on/off via the left footswitch.
- TOP MOMENTARY FOOTSWITCH: The top momentary footswitch sends the rate/speed of the chorus into full flutter for extra weirdness (have you ever seen three usable footswitches in the 1590BB footprint??).
- WIDE TONE SWEEP: Wide tone sweep affecting the chorus.
- FEEDBACK: Feedback of the chorus is adjustable to go from a dry chorus to a warped, alien chorus.
- TRIMPOTS: Depth control, further depth control, blend, and fuzz tone.
- IMPORTANT – DO NOT adjust the internal BLEND pot
- TOP-MOUNTED POWER AND AUDIO JACKS
- 9V DC output center negative power ONLY
