GFI 1

GFI System is an Indonesian manufacturer that has been gaining traction in the pedalsphere thanks to forward-thinking hybrid digital effects like the Synesthesia and the Specular Tempus.

The Skylar is a studio-quality, streamlined, multi-mode, stereo digital reverb that replaces the Specular Reverb in their line. It features four of its predecessor’s true and tried reverb algorithms: Plate, Shimmer, Tremolo+Reverb and the signature Spatium.

The four knobs (Decay, Level, Mode and a varying “Param”) are also pressure switches: by pressing and turning you access secondary parameters like EQ or Pre-Delay. The fourth knob handles other functions like subdivision and assigning the two preset slots.

The two footswitches absolve On/Off and Tap Tempo function, but also help navigate presets and engage the momentary Ramp effect.

The input and output jacks feature TRS connectors for stereo operations, and the External jack can accept either expression or tap tempo input.

This is a more “curated” reverb pedal than your classic do-it-all reverb workstation, but still, a useful and great-sounding device that’s likely to inspire you for a long time.

GFI SKYLAR

GFI System’s Skylar is a flexible reverb pedal in a small form factor, offering four distinctive algorithms under the control of an intuitive user interface. Its four dual-function encoders allow access to seven different parameters for each algorithm selected, facilitating a wide palette of sounds, two of which can be saved and instantly recalled as presets. Skylar’s signal inputs and output jacks both feature TRS connectors, facilitating any combination of mono or stereo I/O.

Maximizing Skylar’s flexibility in your pedal rig, the External jack can accept either expression or tap tempo input, the latter of which allows you to set the tempo of the tremolo effect in Skylar’s Tremble algorithm. The Skylar is a great sounding effect with plenty of tonal variety, sure to add color, space, and character to your signal chain.
