Wren and Cuff came out with a new, deep take on the Big Muff called De La Riva BM20-ULTRA, and we have to say that the device looks and sounds impressive.
The concept is rather unique: a Muff emulation that lets you design the gain stages of the pedal through a combination of two sets of 10 DIP Switches affecting the tone and 2 Toggle Switches turning on and off the two transistors (silicon and germanium).
Inspired in all likelihood by Tech 21’s legendary SansAmp stompbox (and maybe a little bit also by Chase Bliss Audio’s rediscovery of those tiny white levers), the BM20-ULTRA is the ideal pedal for the true Muff connoisseur, allowing for a nearly infinite number of tonal possibilities.

That’s how many unique combos of muff switchery are possible with the De La Riva BM20-ULTRA.
Many of us remember fiddling with the tiny DIP switches on one of the most famous analog amp modelers of all time. There was something satisfying in the simplicity of flicking switches and creating tones with such ease.
That was the inspiration for the De La Riva. A true muff lovers dream with a near endless palette of possibilities at your fingertips. 100% analog in all ways, and 100% fun for days. Reconfigure the traditional muff circuit at 20 different points, switch between the silicon edge of modern transistors, or the velvety goodness of vintage germanium transistors.
- 100% Analog
- Tone section bypass
- True Bypass operation
