Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II continues on the mission of the Texan company to bring guitar players authentic and affordabole clones of legendary discontinued pedals – in this case, the Mu-Tron Phasor II, now selling for over $500 on the used market.
Built with premium components that faithfully match the specs of the original, including classic RC4558P op-amps, vintage-style diodes, carbon resistors, and film caps, the Mutation Phasor II stays true to the 70s circuit, with its electro-optical phase-shifting design delivering rich depth and swirly psychedelic tones.
Just like the vintage unit, this pedal is quite a bit bigger than your classic BOSS pedal and works well with all sorts of instruments, including guitar, keys, bass, or any instrument with a line out.
The controls are simple (Rate for speed, Depth for setting the width of the sweep and Feedback for a more or less intense phasing effect), so it’s really all about the sound, which you can hear in the videos below.
Here are the videos, we added the Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II to our comprehensive article about the best phaser pedals.
Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II, Builder’s Notes
A 70s Legend
The Warm Audio Mutation Phasor II is an accurate recreation of one of the most desirable,100% analog phaser circuits made famous in the experimental era of the 1970s. Mutation Phasor II has all of the vintage vibes of the original phaser pedal allowing you to add depth, wobble, swirl, or “instant funk” to guitar, keys, bass, or anything you can dream of. This electro-optical phase-shifting pedal is built with a true-to-spec recreation of the 70s circuit using premium components. True to the original pedal, Mutation Phasor II delivers all the rich depth and instant psychedelic tones, favored by innovative musicians and producers like Billy Corgan, Tom Bukovac, Robin Trower, and many more.Swirly, Psychedelic, Rich Analog Tone
Adding the Mutation Phasor II to your rig is like adding a new instrument. Fine-tuning the depth of the modulation just right and timing the speed to sync perfectly with the tune takes you back to old-school gigging and recording. For those looking for a truly unique phaser experience, send the phase shifts into overdrive by dialing up the feedback, emphasizing the “wooshes” of the pedal. Altogether, the Mutation Phasor II is not just a pedal, but more of a tone-shaping experience.A true-to-original recreation of the 70s circuit, Mutation Phasor II is built with premium components including classic RC4558P op-amps, vintage-style diodes, carbon resistors, and film caps – Housed in an ultra-tough, vintage-vibe steel case.
Pedal Settings & Controls
To deliver an authentic, experimental experience, the Mutation Phasor II brings back all of the original controls. For ultra-rich swirly phase shifting, the “Depth” control allows you to vary the width of the sweep range – delivering deep modulation expected from a vintage all-analog pedal. Increasing the depth control adds width to the frequency range of the effect, impacting higher highs and lower lows. Easily change the speed (or rate) of the phase-shifting effect to create more or less “wobble” in your tone – from 1/10th sweeps per second (slowest) to 18 sweeps per second (fastest). Increasing the “Feedback” control adds electric feedback to the “wet” phase-shifting signal. Increasing the feedback control creates a more intense phase sound with a particular emphasis on the sweeps, especially noticeable at slower rate settings.
