Victory V1 The Sheriff Overdrive

Designed in collaboration with Adrian Thorpe of ThorpyFX, the Victory V1 The Sheriff is a high-end amp-in-a-box version of the company’s actual guitar amp, inspired by the sound of the Marshall Plexi line of amps. It’s part of the first line of compact pedals released by the British builder.

The sound of Plexi is associated with the tone of a range of rock’n’roll genres ranging from the classic rock of the ’60s to the hard rock and metal tones of the ’80s – guitar sounds that, needless to say, have inspired countless modern records.

The Sheriff nails that tone and also includes a 3-way EQ section to sculpt the sound as needed. We added it to our article about the best Plexi-style overdrives.

Victory V1 The Sheriff, Builder’s Notes

The V1 Sheriff is a collaboration between Victory and Thorpy FX offering an easy and versatile way to add the Sheriff sound to your pedalboard.

Classic rock sounds in a pedal, the V1 Sheriff is the stompbox that takes all the elements of the Sheriff range and squeezes it into a pedal.

The V1 series is a collaboration between Victory and award-winning pedal builder Adrian Thorpe MBE. Designed and built in Britain, the Sheriff is a true collaboration between two British companies.

Add the Sheriff sound to your pedal board, with the gain low you get the vintage channel sounds, then push the gain up for 80’s hot rodded sounds.

All Sheriff Sounds
The V1 Sheriff is based on the Sheriff 22 and 44 and aims to give you a wide variety of tones from 60’s British blues rock through to 80’s metal sounds.

Dynamic Gain Control
The V1 Sheriff’s gain control is designed to make it easy to go from low gain vintage style sounds all the way through to classic 80’s metal sounds.

Versatile three-band EQ
The V1 Sheriff has a powerful three band EQ, this is perfect for sculpting the sound to work with any amp and set-up you pair with your V1.

The idea of a collaboration was something that made a good deal of sense, as we (Victory) were to an extent, venturing into the unknown…

At Victory, we have the knowhow, of course; however, being able to make use of Adrian’s (Thorpy’s) experience and the various subtleties of his design ethic, enabled us to better appeal to the player who likes a clean amp platform; getting their various sounds from pedals.”

“We were keen to make the V1 pedals sound as close to the full-bore valve amps as possible but working with Martin and the team meant that we had to be even more precise to do their amp designs justice in solid state
pedal form.

It took a long time and many times we had to go back to the drawing board. Despite this, maintaining an uncompromising nature of what the Victory sound is, means that pedal fiends worldwide can enjoy these pedals, no matter what their flavour preferences.

I’m proud to say we worked on these V1 pedals.”
