Recently highlighted in the JHS Show, the Lantern Marigold Phaser is described by its creator as a “daydream phaser,” thanks to its ability to recreate a variety of more or less dreamy, phasey effects beyond your regular phaser tones, thanks to its variable stages (from 4 to 12) and feedback paths.
The Path knob is rather unique in this circuit: it “controls the selection of the number of stages to be regenerated or fed back to the beginning of the phase-shifted signal.” Interacting with the Stages knob, it can create unique tones including garbled phasers, through-zero-like tones, and hollowed-out resonances due to frequency cancellations.
Another rather peculiar control is the Step footswitch. when engaged, it transforms the phaser’s smooth triangle LFO into a stair-step pattern, with results reminiscent of arpeggiation, ring mod-like tones, and atmospheric stutters. In this mode the LED will turn from red to blue.
The other controls are your regular ones found in all phasers: Rate, Depth and Regen (Feedback), plus the Mix knob to reintegrate the clean signal.
We added the Marigold to our comprehensive article about phaser pedals.
