The Korg Nu:Tekt Power Tube Reactor is a new pedal by the Japanese builer’s subsidiary that focuses on synth and also stompbox DIY kits.
The pedals in the kit series, which was launched a few years ago with the OD-S overdrive, all feature Korg’s mini-tube creation Nutube, visible through a glass opening on the bottom left of the pedal. Just like a regular (and much larger) vacuum tube, this device delivers amp-like character to your tone in the form of ” sag” (the compression feeling) typical of vacuum tube power amps.
This character can be added to taste through the Power Sag knob and blended in with the clean signal through the Mix knob, a function that makes this a tried and true parallel compression unit. A Tube Gain knob at the beginning of a chain will add gain and saturation, while the final Volume knob will let you push extra dbs into your amp.
Inside the top cover of the housing there are 3 trimpots that let you fine-tune Tone, Sustain and Threshold.
The kit is semi-assembled and doesn’t require any soldering, coming with all necessary tools for assembly.

This makes the TR-S the easiest and fastest unit to assemble in the entire current Nu:tekt series. With the TR-S, you can enjoy building the kit as a DIY project, and the result is a great sounding compression pedal that gives you the sound and feeling of a vacuum tube amp.
Recreate the behavior and sag of a vacuum tube power amp with the Nutube
This unit features a patent-pending circuit design that drives the compression for the vacuum tube itself, only possible with the Nutube. Use the Nutube to recreate sag (the compression feeling), a behavior of vacuum tube power amps that can be used in a variety of situations such as when you’re playing through a transistor amp or recording on a desktop music setup. The TR-S includes three trimmer knobs inside the top cover of the housing, in addition to the four knobs on the panel, which brings you even closer to the sound you want. The TR-S also achieves a natural-sounding compression effect with other instruments besides guitar.
