The Florist Dynamic Modulator is a collaboration between Portland’s established boutique amp and pedal brand Benson Amps and lesser-known Non-Humnan Audio, based in Albuquerque, NM. The owners of the two companies met at a pedal show in Oklahoma where a friendship was born from a mutual admiration for each other’s pedals.
The pair started brainstorming on a circuit inspired by the unique Non-Human SLow Loris, of which this pedal is an evolution. The Florist features two delays, each with its own character, that dynamically modulate based on the performance’s dynamic, interacting with each other and the dry signal to create modulation effects.
This means that, depending on the intensity of your pick action, you can get out of this pedal chorus, flanger, vibrato, and other modulation effects, but also slapback – since all these effects are delay-based. All this, without any knobs reminiscent of a modulation pedal, like speed, rate and depth.
All you get is an Intensity and Wet knob per delay channel, plus a separate Dry control to set the level of the original signal. A second footswitch called Ghost adds feedback for self-oscillation effects.
The results, to quote the creators, “defy categories… flanging, modulated reverb, notes flying everywhere in unpredictable ways, swirling high frequency sighs.”
