The JHS 3 Series Tape Delay marks another milestone in the Kansas City-based company’s mission to deliver affordable ($99), boutique-quality solutions for every type of effect pedal. This latest addition builds on their success in the delay category, following the 3-Series Delay (with analog and digital odes) and the Oil Can Delay, further solidifying JHS’s reputation for combining accessibility with premium tone.
Like other compact delay pedals designed to emulate tape echoes, the 3 Series Tape Delay employs a digital circuit to replicate not just the warm, rich tones of vintage tape machines, but also their distinctive sonic character—most notably the subtle modulation known as “wow and flutter.” This iconic effect can be easily toggled on or off using the dedicated Flutter switch, giving players the flexibility to dial in authentic tape-style textures or opt for a cleaner delay sound.
The other controls are as straightforward as they get, with Mix, Tape Speed (aka delay time), and Repeats.
