Dilly Dally introduces us to Wounded Paw’s Battering Ram

Dilly Dally is not a new band in the Toronto scene (they were born in 2009), but it’s one of those rare ones that get better with time. 2015 was their year, thanks to their deliciously noisy debut album ‘Sore,’ a record that aims straight at the hearts of those who can relate to a perfect balance of fuzz, melody and slacking attitude – as well as those who, like us, miss like crazy the early Pixies (in this regard, check out single ‘Desire‘).

To celebrate our upcoming Toronto Stompbox Exhibit, we asked band’s songwriter (and lead guitarist) Katie Monks a quick question about pedals, here’s what she had to say!

What’s your favorite guitar pedal right now, why, and in which Dilly Dally song can you hear it distinctly?

“My newest pedal is the Wounded Paw’s Battering Ram… It’s not actually mine, it’s bassist Jimmy-Tony’s. He passed it on to me when I was in a tight spot. Pure friendship, damn. I use it for my lead (my only lead) in ‘The Touch’ (see video above). That big meaty riff on the low e string. That’s the one. Drive and fuzz.”

But you must be curious about the (appropriately Canadian) Battering Ram, right? It’s an “Overdrive + Fuzz pedal which works equally well for guitar or bass,” with an octave footswitch – it looks very tweakable EQ-wise. “Overdrive and fuzz channels can work in parallel, each channel receiving the instrument signal, working their magic and then mixed back together at the output,” while the “Split” switch lets you run them in parallel. Check out the demo video below.
