The pursuit of a particular, revered American amplifier tone in pedal form has long been an expensive and technical endeavor. Original boutique units with sought-after circuit modifications command steep second-hand premiums, while comprehensive DIY kits require significant skill and time. The Blammo! TNYDUMBLE presents a pragmatic, refined solution: a compact, pedalboard-ready unit that integrates the key mods aficionados desire at an accessible price point.
This design intelligently deconstructs the classic dual-channel “Dumble-style” architecture. Its core innovation is the physical and functional separation of the JFET-based clean boost from the MOSFET-clipping overdrive circuit, coupled with an order switch. This allows players to run boost into drive or drive into boost—a fundamental flexibility often missing from simpler circuits. Further refinement comes via a high-frequency tone control on the boost side, offering subtle top-end sculpting from cut to boost, which interacts with the existing input control for precise clean voicing.
The overdrive channel remains faithful to the acclaimed asymmetrical clipping and internal presence control of its inspiration. Practical upgrades include the implementation of silent, relay-based switching for true bypass operation. The TNYDUMBLE effectively condenses an evolved, studio-grade preamp concept into a reliable, stage-worthy stompbox, offering sophisticated tonal routing without the prohibitive cost or complexity of the alternatives.
