When people talk about delay pedals they typically use words like "warm" or "clear" to characterize the tone of the repeats. When attempting to describe the Red Panda Particle, adjectives like robotic, chaotic, unpredictable and warped only begin to paint a picture. Looks like we've got another entry from Rocktron's Boutique line of stompboxes. I reviewed the Sweet Spot fixed wah in an earlier review and was very impressed with the build quality and solid sonics. This time it's the Metal Embrace. The first thing I noticed about the Metal Embrace was its ironic title. When I think of Metal, I don't typically think of hugs. I mean, I guess folks embrace each other in the Pit but the embracing is probably that of a painful nature. Upon setting up to demo this pedal it became apparent to me that I may be stepping out of my element to give this pedal a proper test as I strapped on my Korean Semi-Hollow body, plugged into the ME and then straight into my Fender Blues Jr. Not an award winning Metal rig, but a nice signal chain nonetheless.... El Músico Loco is a small team of designers, founded in Spain but currently based out of California. They shoot for concise design, stating, “… [our] effects are one box, one effect. Simple designs. The essence of utility.” Not everything about their catalog is COMPLETELY utilitarian though; their pedals are all housed in beautiful chrome enclosures, giving them that little bit of flash and style every boutique pedal deserves. Their latest, the Siamese Scream, uses the same basic circuit as the EHX Big Muff, but tweaks the classic design for a more compact circuit size, better tone control, and grittier fuzz.... Leading string manufacturer D'Addario recently launched a new line of guitar strings that proudly features the letters "NY" in its name: NYXL. This is to bring attention to the fact that the Long Island based company, after spending the last few years working towards centralizing every step of their operation, can claim that the new steel wire at the core of the NYXL has been formulated, created, and perfected in the Empire State - not only made in the US, but made in NY!... I played bass in a band in high school, but because I was 16, I wasn't familiar with the concept of discretion and constantly played through a cheap fuzz pedal with all the knobs turned all the way up. My band mates would complain that I was too loud and all the songs lost their fullness without the low end... but I wanted so badly to be heard in the forefront!
