Analog Man Seminar during the Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit

On Sunday October 26 at 3pm, AnalogMan's owner "AnalogMike" Piera (pictured) will run a panel about guitar pedals focused on many issues related to the effects business and also on several technical aspects of various stompboxes. One of the first manufacturers to create the boutique, high end guitar pedals that are now so popular, AnalogMan has developed a comprehensive and original approach to stompboxes (and a rather unique business model), that allows it to be also a  "modder" of other brands' pedals, an online dealer buying and selling all sorts of guitar related gear, and also a repair shop. This puts Piera's in the ideal position to run this panel from the vantage point of his experience and broad comprehension of the business.... Click on the title for more

A Fuzz that attaches to your guitar: TENTEN Triangle

"Hi. This is Triangle. It messes up things." So begins the odd description of an odd fuzz pedal. Or maybe the TENTEN Triangle is not odd, and we just aren't expecting enough from our manufacturers of boutique pedals. But wait a minute... is this really a pedal?... Click on the title for more

An overview of the MojoHand Magpie Overdrive

There is such a thing as too much overdrive. Sometimes you want a chime instead of the church bells. The pedal known as Magpie - by Texan manufacturer Mojo Hand FX - is a new Overdrive for those looking for a refined, transparent crunch that maintains the original tone of the guitar and amp. This pedal falls somewhere between an overdrive and a clean boost. The controls are familiar: Gain, Tone and Volume, and they can be used in conjunction with a mode selecting switch to dial up three different flavors of boost.... Click on the title for more

Death By Audio Reverberation Machine Review

The Reverberation Machine is a new "reverb" pedal released this summer by the incredible Death By Audio. DBA released a pedal called the Sunshine Reverberation last year in collaboration with Ty Segall. Like anything limited edition and emblazoned with the Ty Segall's moniker, the original sold out instantly. The Reverberation Machine builds on the concept behind that elusive pedal.... Ekko Aero: a Pedal with remote, by Aalberg Audio

It's a pretty common problem, especially for those of us who move around a bunch onstage: ever wish you could control your effects remotely instead of being tied to your pedalboard? Sure, there have been various solutions over the years, usually made by tinkerers; Les Paul built his "Paulverizer", which controlled various doodads offstage, Danny Gatton built his "Magic Dingus" box, which controlled his Echoplex, among other things, both hardwired boxes, with ingenious analog switching, yet tied to the effects via a direct connection. Although we've made incredible strides with ubiquitous digital effects found on many pro boards, somewhat surprisingly, there's never really been a wireless pedal-controlling solution--until now.... EC Pedals previews the Super Switcher II

Even the most die hard relativist acknowledges this universal truth: a guitarist who plays out with a good amount of pedals will eventually buy a pedalboard. However, once you get everything hooked up to it, the pain beings: How do you recreate those dazzlingly complex effects chains that sounded so good in the studio? How do you get everything turned on or off quickly enough when there is a change? Unless you want to look like Gene Kelly on stage, you might also be in want of something like the SuperSwitcher 2.... Lodro’s gear and DIY recordings

Brooklyn's
Lodro sounds like a band with dangerous, dark intentions. On top of that, bassist and lead singer Lesley Hann (formerly of Friends) has the looks of one of those irresistible Pulp Fiction-style, not to be trusted female characters , while Jeremy Cox's guitar does whatever it takes to sound as sharp and out of control as a rusty knife in the hands of a psychopath. Since he recorded all the band's material (so far) in total DIY fashion, we asked him to shed light on Lodro''s recording habits.... Click on the title for more

Review: Klon 3 aka KTR

I’ve always wanted a Klon. I played the first Centaur in the late 90's at a friend’s studio in San Francisco and by then they were already over $600. Somehow I missed the second model. I must have given up on being able to afford one by then. But a few months ago I caught wind of the new Klon 3 (aka the KTR) by way of an email list. The timing was right, as was the price. I jumped on it, and luckily so because in the blink of an eye there were waiting lists for it everywhere. There still are, and at three times the price.... Click on the title for more

Review: Ernie Ball MVP “Most Valuable Pedal”

For years you've loved Ernie Ball's passive 250k pot-packing volume pedal the VP Junior for its durability, reasonably small stage footprint, and the precision with which its treadle/sweep can be manipulated and controlled. Now it's time to get acquainted with the VP's badass big brother the MVP....
