MXR pedals have been among the best selling stompboxes for quite some time, and the brains behind the US brand – originally based in Rochester, NY, but now owned by California based Dunlop Manufacturing – must have thought that a little bit of Italian (sonic) flair might be something good to keep the distortion lovers’ interest alive.
Designed by guest Custom Shop engineer Carlo Sorasio, Italy’s premier boutique amp and pedal builder, the Il Torino Overdrive uses MOSFET technology to recreate the gain structure of classic tube preamps, Carlo also added a 3-band EQ section and a BOOST/OD switch to toggle between Boost Mode—a cleaner sound with just the right amount of compression and sustain—and OD Mode—a more aggressive, cranked tube amp sound.
