Whimsy Machines The Great Fantabulizing Whatsitdo Octave Fuzz

Whimsy Machines is a new, Virginia-based boutique builder that has been spoiling us with some very imaginative devices. Their new creation makes it clear right from its moniker that the company’s stomping ground hasn’t changed: enter the Great Fantabulizing Whatsitdo, a “Recursive Octave Fuzz.”

So, you may ask yourself, “whatsitdo?”

The simple answer is: “a helluva lot!” and it does it with only two controls: the Wonderment knob sets the intensity of the effect. The other unnamed rotary switch is a Distortion Mode knob – modes are called “Fundamentals” by the builder.

We couldn’t find a description of what each mode does, but you can hear the sounds they concoct in the Demos in the Dark demo below – here are the links to each section of the video to facilitate comparison between them:

It’s also interesting to hear how the pedal sounds direct, without an amp taming its edgy high-end.

It’s not entirely clear what the two blue lights do, but they look great!
