Brian Wampler, the founder of Wampler Pedals, has long been passionate about fuzz pedals and their impact on guitar tones. Recognizing the unique characteristics of classic circuits like the Fuzz Face, Tone Bender, and Big Muff, with the Wampler Cryptid Fuzz, Brian sought to create a pedal that combined the best elements of these iconic designs while introducing new features and versatility.
The Cryptid builds on the foundation of Wampler’s earlier Velvet Fuzz but expands its capabilities significantly. It includes controls for Volume, Tone, and Fuzz, along with a Character (bias) knob that allows players to dial in tones ranging from smooth, Velvet Fuzz-inspired distortion to classic muff and bender sounds, and even experimental Fuzz Factory-style textures.
A 3-position Tight switch lets users shape the low end, offering options from deep, doom-ready sub-frequencies to tight, distortion-like responses. Additionally, the Chime toggle adds subtle harmonic brightness without introducing harshness.
Designed to be both user-friendly and versatile, the Cryptid can be used on its own or stacked with other pedals.
