The TC Electronic Plethora X1 shrinks the format of their stereo TonePrint file loader bringing together the full range of TonePrint pedals in a compact stompbox format.
This little box has 7 memory slots that can “become” any of these classic TC pedals by just loading their respective software and algorithms: Hall of Fame 2 Reverb, Flashback 2 Delay, Helix Phaser, Viscous Vibe, Sub ‘n’ Up Octaver, Brainwaves Pitch Shifter, Corona Chorus, Hypergravity Compressor, Mimiq Doubler, Vortex Flanger, Pipeline Tap Tremolo, Quintessence Harmony, Sentry Noise Gate, and Shaker Vibrato.
Of course, editing these sophisticated algorithms via the 3 variable knobs is limiting, but deep editing is what the free TonePrint app is for.
Each slot can load a different effect, and two can be assigned to an A/B function triggered via the footswitch.
Speaking of which, a neat feature of the footswitch is that it can deal not only with Tap Tempo but also features the company’s proprietary Mash Function: when held, it’s sensitive to pressure, allowing live control of programmable parameters similar to what expression pedals do.
There’s also a more regular Momentary Mode, which takes up to 5 the number of ways the footswitch can be used, if you include the regular on/off function.
At just $129, this is a quality wild card stereo pedal that can be useful in any rig, adapting to many changing circumstances.
