Presented as a Wide Range Boost, the KittycasterFX Meerkat is a high-end evolution of the Rangemaster Treble Booster, used by legendary guitarists of the ’70s to impart a more edgy quality to their tone, particularly during solos.
Belonging to the company’s FXCORE series, consisting of handmade, reimagined versions of classic circuits, the Meerkat gives you four carefully tuned controls (Boost, Gain, Range, and Smooth) that put you in complete command of your sound, exceeding the tonal palette of the original.
For a classic Rangemaster effect turn the Smooth and Gain knobs all the way up and the Range knob all the way down. Boost sets the volume of the high frequency boost, while Gain sets the amount of saturated gain for more overdriven results.
Lowering the Smooth control will remove some of the sharpest highs typical of the Rangemaster circuits, while Range will allow you to widen the range of frequencies pushed by the boost, working pretty much like the “Q” control on a mixing console.
The Meerkat is designed to respond dynamically to your guitar’s volume knob, making it a seamless extension of your instrument, adapting to your playing style in real-time.
