Centered around a pair of rare new-old stock Mullard OC201 transistors, the Great Eastern FX OC201 Preamp is a limited edition pedal (printed in only 50 units) that offers a fresh take on the classic two-transistor fuzz circuit (read: Fuzz Face-style). It’s the first one in a series called “Obsolete Devices.”
Those silicon transistors, considered “primitive” and obsolete by today’s standards because of their low gain and limited bandwidth, were chosen for the unique character they can impart to this fuzz circuit, ranging, to quote the manufacturer, from gritty boost and garage-rock overdrive to a raw, textured fuzz.
The pedal also retains the renowned volume knob cleanup that this style of fuzz is celebrated for. Additionally, the circuit has been fine-tuned to provide a significant volume boost to your amplifier.
