The FFX Pedals Sir Reel is a subtle tape-style drive based on the preamp of a German echo/reverb made by Dynacord Tape Machine from the ’70s. Many players grew fond of the unit’s color and output section – more so than its actual effect – using it to saturate their amps’ input.
That section could tolerate a noteworthy amount of gain without any distortion, unless turned all the way up. At maximum level the unit would “crush the input of any amp.” That’s what the Sir Reel does, with the adding functionality of a Blend mix that can reintroduce the clean signal for definition and added dynamics.
