Pedalivorous humans,
For our upcoming Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit we wanted to have an issue of The Deli even more special than usual. That's why we asked our friends at Gearphoria (who are obsessed with gear, as you maybe have gathered) to help us out with some pedal related content. We are very proud of the results!
Check out the full summer issue of The Deli here, the section about pedals starts here, and the latest issue of Gearphoria here (It's all about guitar equipment and the people behind it!).
The issue will be available in print in NYC starting August 30, 2016.... Click on the title for more
Stompboxes that approximate the sounds of classic amplifiers have been all the rage recently, with companies innovating products that get closer and closer each time. In a pair of ingenious new stompbox offerings (to be presented at our upcoming Brooklyn Stompbox Exhibit!) , Ernie Ball is entering the world of guitar effects in its own terms with the first two products of the "Expression Pedal" series, which take the wah/volume pedal chassis concept and apply it to an overdrive and a delay effect, therefore allowing a sweepable foot control for both.... After perfecting their nuanced sound via touring and single releases, the shoegaze duo, Shana Falana, impressed critics with a 2015 debut LP titled Set Your Lightning Fire Free. Follow-up album, Here Comes the Wave is scheduled for a fall release later this year. The band's sound hits all the right sensory marks dealing in positive wonderment and a sense of discovery. Vocals, as sung by singer/guitarist Shana, soar over chiming guitars and tom-tom drums, all of which keep pace with affected, drone-y guitars. Here's Shana to re-cap the techie and creative side of things.... Click on the title for more

JHS Pedals had a slam dunk with their innovative Colour Box, which models the highly sought-after sound of a vintage Neve preamp - hey, that's what The Beatles used for the solo in 'Revolution 1'! The company now offers the classic distortion aspect of that unit in a more affordable and streamlined stompbox format.... Click on the title for more
NYC's Cloud Becomes Your Hand's creative potential is on full display in their sophomore album "Rest In Flea," a multi-colored sonic adventure released by intrepid Queens label Northern Spy, home to an enviable collection of NYC's best experimental talents of all ages. But the record, a brilliantly quirky but very musical collage of robotic numbers, psychedelia and musical deconstruction, doesn't tell the whole story. With electronic xylophone, clarinet and electric violin rounding up their drum/bass/guitar sonic backbone, the sextet offers a monstrously tight live show featuring perfectly choreographed movements and sublime moments of absurdity, reminiscent of a DIY blend of Devo, Wire and The Residents.... The '70s were prime-time for deliciously dirty fuzz tones, and the Sam Ash Fuzz-Stainer - a pedal that harkens back to a time when the music retail giant was cranking out their own brand of effects - delivered delirious levels of fuzzy goodness. For most pedal connoisseurs and fuzz-lovers alike, however, the super-rare stompbox has been out of reach - until now, (kinda).

There's a fine line between "old" and "vintage," and that subtle quality called "character" is what stands between the two. Many music lovers today enjoy the sonic imperfections of vinyl records, and while several examples of vinyl emulation plug ins for recording have been around for decades, guitar pedal manufacturers haven't shown as much interest in the idea, if any.
