The Walrus Audio Voyager MkII is the complete redesign of the Oklahoma-based company’s very first pedal, launched in 2011. Like for many other young pedal companies, it was a Klon Centaur’s clone.
The Voyager MkII takes the “Klone” concept to the next level, with a multi-voice approach thanks to a 5-position rotary Mode knob, giving access to slightly different tone options:
- The first setting delivers the tone of the original Voyager, a rather compressed one based on 1N34A germanium diodes.
- Also utilizing the 1N34A diodes, this setting offers a bass boost with warmer results.
- In this mode, symmetric silicone diodes deliver a more dynamic response without losing the tonal flavor of the Klon.
- This is the least compressed of the options, utilizing asymmetrical silicone diodes.
- The most open-sounding voice, this setting also leverages asymmetrical silicone diodes, adding a pronounced bass boost as well.
As this wasn’t enough to satisfy your Klon tone needs, the Voyager also features a very tweakable Mid Boost/Cut footswitch thanks to a Parametric Mid circuit that lets you pick not just the amount of boost up to 12dBs (Mid knob) but also the frequency to push within the 250Hz to 2kHz range (Freq knob). This feature dramatically expands the palette of sounds you can get from this pedal, with the added ability to change its voice on the fly before solos or quieter parts.
