A revisitation of one of the South Carolina-based company’s early unreleased prototypes, the Caroline Wave Cannon v2 is a bold distortion pedal that delivers everything from subtle crackles to heavy, chaotic, and even self-oscillating tones.
Unlike pedals focused on subtle dynamics, the Wave Cannon v2 features intense gain and volume that can push any amplifier to its limits.
The big knobs control Volume, Tone, Shape and Gain.
While the Shape knob sets the character of the saturation from distortion to fuzz, the Voltage trimmer (the smaller knob on the left) opens up extra sonic options, turning classic distortion/fuzzes tones into gated and velcroy versions of themselves, emulating a dying battery.
The Rumble switch adds deep low-end, while the pedal responds well to nuanced playing, adjusting to changes in pick attack and technique. For even more chaos, the Havoc footswitch (bottom right) triggers unpredictable oscillations.
While it handles mid-level crunch well, the Wave Cannon excels when pushed to extreme levels, offering a range of wild and aggressive sounds.
A useful switch on the side of the pedal selects the correct impedance, whether you place it first in your chain or not.
