Eventide H90

The highly anticipated new Eventide upgrade to the popular H9 Multi-FX harmonizer is finally out: it’s the H90. The most important detail about the H90 is that it can run two H9 effects at once.

Another obvious and important upgrade is the number of hardware controls: five knobs vs 1 in the H9 and 3 assignable footswitches while the H9 had none. On top of that, there are two pages worth of assignments, so 6 assignments in total. The satisfyingly large OLED screen also makes a difference.

Software control via Bluetooth is another novel feature, with updated software allowing in-depth editing capabilities.

The H90 comes preloaded with 64 effects algorithms, including 10 brand-new ones lie Polyphony, Prism Shift, Bouquet Delay, Head Space, Weedwacker, Even-vibe, Wormhole, Instant Flanger, Instant Phaser, and SP2016 Reverb, and the more recent Polysynth and Polyflex, plus all the 52 algorithms from the H9 Max, in some cases with extra features.

Internal routing is also improved, allowing routing effects in series or parallel and the use a spillover function between the programs. Notably, it’s capable of processing two independent stereo signals simultaneously thanks to its dual mode.

There’s a lot more to the Eventide H90 than meets the eye, you can find more info under the video.

Eventide H90 vs H9: What Are The Differences?

We asked Eventide’s VP of Dev and Director of Signal Processing Russell Wedelich to highlight the differences between the H90 and the H9, here’s what he had to say:

DSP power: We’re utilizing a new ARM platform that allows much more DSP math to be performed on H90. This enables new algorithms to be developed, like Polyphony, that were not possible on H9. Expect new algorithms and features that use this power in the future.

Intuitive UI: Navigating two algorithms on H90 is easier than navigating one algorithm on the H9. I attribute this to the OLED display and the design process that went into formulating the H90 pedal UI. In addition, we designed the remote application, H90 Control, to excel at what it does best: organization of an unlimited number of Lists, Programs and Presets.

Flexibility: H90 is like having two H9s with instant series or parallel routing options. The 4 in / 4 out means lots of connectivity options from pre/post setups within amps’ or modelers’ FX loops, to external pedal inserts and/or wet/dry setups. There are so many ways to integrate H90 into any rig. H90 also offers two exp/ctl jacks for more external controller flexibility.

Performance-Focused: We wanted the H90 to offer studio-quality FX with no compromises for live performance, so true spillover was imperative. Nothing beats those seamless transitions between sounds to my ear. We also allow users to customize each Program with footswitch performance parameters including plenty of momentary actions for quick throws. Global and per Program external controller assignments are equally user-customizable.

Overall our goal was to make H90 fun, musical and intuitive to use at every interaction point. We wanted to cross off all the feature requests from H9 users and throw in a few surprises of our own.”

Eventide H90, Builder’s Notes

The H90 Harmonizer® is Eventide’s next-generation multi-effects pedal. Whether you want high-quality bread and butter effects or experimental sounds unheard, the H90 has everything you need to inspire your creativity with an intuitive UI designed with players in mind. Discover why top artists and producers have chosen Eventide through the years with 62 effect algorithms and hundreds of Program combinations curated for a variety of instruments and genres. With its comprehensive I/O and flexible routing options, the H90 is designed to be the heart of your rig.

62 total ARM-derived algorithms and 10 new effects

H90 Harmonizer features modern ARM-based architecture derived from the world’s most powerful
effects processor, Eventide’s flagship H9000 Harmonizer. This paves the way for the ongoing creation of
more advanced effects processing techniques. As a result, the pedal not only offers the iconic reverbs,
delays, modulation, and pitch shifting effects of the H9 Max but goes far beyond with 10 new powerful
algorithms including state-of-the-art, fast-tracking, and warble-free Polyphonic Pitch Shifting. Eventide’s
proprietary SIFT (Spectral Instantaneous Frequency Tracking) technology clears the road ahead for nextgen effects both long imagined and unimaginable.

Seven new algorithms exploit the H90’s raw power:

Polyphony – Pitch shift chords with ease using SIFT technology. Create rising or sinking chorus
and crystals-type effects. Use Freeze to generate pad textures.
Prism Shift – Generate three voices from a single chord whose intervals are separated,
staggered, and pitch-shifted to create four arpeggio types spanning up to three octaves.
Even-Vibe – Authentic Uni-Vibe emulation reimagined in stereo with envelope followers.
Head Space – Vintage four-head Tape Delay with classic and modern creative tone shaping
controls for grit, spatiality, and character.
Bouquet Delay – Bucket Brigade Delay (BBD) with modulation, LoFi, and Modern flavors;
includes Pitch jump and Self-oscillation performance functions.
Wormhole – A mega-sized hyper-modulated reverb with pitch warping performance.
Weedwacker – Two-stage, serial overdrive reminiscent of a famous green pedal.
Three algorithms from Eventide’s acclaimed rackmount processors place these legendary effects at your
feet:
Instant Phaser – Authentic emulation of the world’s first studio Phaser from 1971 notably used
in Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.”
Instant Flanger – Authentic emulation of the world’s first studio Flanger heard on countless hit
records.
SP2016 Reverb – The legendary Room, Stereo Room, and Hi-density plate from the original
studio rackmount.

That’s not all. All previous H9 Max algorithms have been enriched with features previously only available
on the dot9 pedals and plug-ins. Others have been enhanced to take advantage of the new advanced
pitch-shifting.

Twin-Turbo Program Power

Two of these already impressive algorithms can be combined into a Program to create novel, inspiring
sounds. H90 Harmonizer’s dual algorithm design features true spillover between Programs, series or
parallel effect routing, and flexible I/O.

Two mono inserts allow you to incorporate outboard effects in any configuration or combine them for
one stereo insert. Optimize your signal flow with instrument or line level operation and full gain controls
to incorporate H90 into your rig or make it the centerpiece.
Dual Mode lets you do things like connect using the four-cable method or process two independent
stereo instruments at once! Let the H90 Harmonizer take you beyond the effects horizon.

Live Performance Machine
The H90 Harmonizer is a live performance powerhouse! The front panel has been reimagined with five
push knobs, seven LED buttons, and a hi-res OLED display for greater hands-on control and parameter
feedback. Two large push knobs allow you to switch between SELECT, BANK, and PERFORM modes with
ease. In PERFORM mode, you get six programmable footswitches. Map functions like tap tempo, preset,
insert bypass or momentary states; use them to engage options like reverb freeze, pitch flex, or delay
repeat; make multiple instantaneous parameter changes with three HotSwitches.

The comprehensive UI allows you to control any parameter with ease. Adjust expression mappings by
hand with the PERFORM HotKnob and engage up to six individual assignable parameters with the three
push-button Quick Knobs. Get even more control with two inputs for expression pedals or auxiliary
switches with up to three buttons. If that wasn’t enough, take advantage of the pedal’s extensive MIDI
control.

The H90 comes with hundreds of factory Programs which can be loaded using either SELECT or BANK
mode. In SELECT mode, you can navigate your Playlist sequentially without ever missing a detail thanks
to the OLED display. In BANK mode, you can quickly load from a bank of 3 Programs, perfect for cueing
up a range of sounds for a song. Organizing your favorite sounds has never been easier, simply load a
new Playlist and you’re ready for the next gig!
