A rack unit launched in 1983, the Roland SDE3000 was one of the the first delays to feature dual delays and a modulation section. It was famously used by Van Halen, and Japanese brand already released a non-compact pedal version with a variant inspired by the star guitarist in 2023. Although the first plugin emulating a guitar amp dates back to 1998 (Line 6's Amp Farm, whose algorithms ended up in the Pod) amp and cab simulation is a category of effect pedals that has exploded in recent years, and Japanese giant BOSS hasn't exactly been on the forefront of it. The new BOSS IR-2 promises to change that.

The BOSS DM-101 is an analog, BBD-based pedal that confirms a few new trends in the "upper-level" stompbox industry, like the takeover of stereo and presets, but also a more granular approach to multi-mode devices: where the pedals of yesteryear gave you several types of delays (like analog, digital, tape etc), today's stompboxes offer you several flavors of the same type of effect - in this case, analog delay.
