Present for all to play with at the 2026 edition of our Brooklyn Synth & Pedal Expo, the When I Grow Up I Want To Be A Fuzz by Mind Monkey Effects is a dynamic JFET overdrive engineered to emulate real tube-amp dynamics rather than traditional diode clipping. Designed to act like a multi-stage tube circuit, it transitions seamlessly from a warm, transparent clean boost to power-section-style compression, sag, and blooming saturation.
At the center of its design is an unconventional Blend control. Rather than using a standard clean blend, it routes a phase-shifted dry signal back into the circuit. As you mix dry tone back in, subtle low-end cancellation creates a punchy, percussive attack reminiscent of small, pushed tweed amplifiers. This unique phase interaction prevents stacked front-end pedals from drowning in muddy saturation.
A dedicated Hi Gain toggle instantly restructures the gain architecture, allowing lower settings to act as a touch-sensitive always-on preamp while pushed settings hint at rich, fuzz-like harmonic density without sacrificing string definition.
