The JHS Screamer 3 Series is the latest addition to the Kansas City-based company line of $99, 3-knob + 1 toggle stompboxes. In case you are still left to wonder, YES, it’s a Tube Screamer-inspired overdrive.
The idea behind the JHS 3 Series, now comprising a total of 11 different effects, is to give guitar players “affordability and simplicity without compromising quality.” (And also to sell a ton of them, since they can be manufactured faster than handmade pedals!)
The Screamer is based on an existing JHS mod of the venerable Ibanez overdrive pedal, previously labeled as “Strong Mod,” which improves on the original circuit with “more clean headroom, better usability as a boost, more versatile drive and tone controls as well as a more pleasing frequency response.”
The toggle switch provides two different clipping options: the asymmetric one found in the Strong Mod, and the classic symmetric clipping produced by the original TS9 and TS808.
