With the new Flight modulated delay, the folks at JHS make a little step closer to complexity, perhaps pointing to a future less dominated by their extremely successful “less is more” approach to stompboxes. Its digital and reverse mode also indicate an attempt to expand the brand’s appeal to a more experimental demographic of guitarists (from the ambient and shoegaze niches).
Available in black and white and blue and yellow color codes, the Flight offers three popular types of delays, selectable via the center toggle switch:
- Needless to say, the Analog mode is voiced after Bucked Brigade-style circuits (this is a digital pedal), recreating their typical warmth and degradation at higher settings
- The Reverse mode, a nod to ambient and shoegaze guitarists, delivers what’s expected of it: reversed repeats
- Digital mode recreates the crisp and pristine repeats of the rack units of the ’80s, also revered by shoegaze fans
The controls for the delay are the expected ones, with a Tap Tempo footswitch, Mix, Time with 3 Subdivision options and Repeats (aka feedback). An EQ knob allows to darken the wet sound for a more vintage and warm aura.
The modulation section also offers three modes: Off, Chorus and Vibrato, with knobs for Depth and Rate.
