Atomic Ampli-Firebox Mark II

With the Ampli-Firebox, the New Jersey-based folks at Atomic and Studio Devil were the first ones to release a high-end amp and cab modeler in stompbox format – followed suit by a series of bigger names in the pedal world.

The new Mark II improves on the original device, which was well received by many tone connoisseurs, with (even) better sounds and extremely useful features – here’s a shortlist:

  • Next-generation amp modeling engine including dynamic resonance control
  • New amp models
  • New Speaker Impulses (IRs)
  • Headphone jack
  • New streamlined operating system/UI
  • Simplified 3-way toggle switches (one each to control amp, cab and presets)
  • FX level knob
  • Both footswitches completely assignable (turn on/off any effect simultaneously, select/toggle between presets or tap tempo etc)
  • Dedicated save function

Key features from the previous version are still there, like 9 presets instantly accessible via 3 toggle switches, channel switching mode that lets you toggle between any two custom presets, built-in effects like overdrive, delay, reverb, compressor, EQ and gate, USB connectivity for deep editing and XLR out.

A quick glance at the controls is enough to understand the depth of options delivered by the Atomic Ampli-Firebox Mark II. You can hear how it sounds in the video below, by The Andertons. We added it to our article about the Best Amp and Cab Modeling Pedals.
