Inspired by hand-wired EF86 tube preamps of the early 1990s, the DBE DC-30 is a modern homage to a circuit that shaped ’90s indie and alternative tones, channeling the distinctive character of these circuits known for their crisp high-end clarity and harmonically rich breakup when pushed to the limit.
The EF86 (6267) pentode, running at high voltage, delivers the tube’s signature response: glassy cleans at lower gain and articulate crunch when driven.
With its two-stage switchable design, the DC-30 lets you switch between clean and dirty modes, each with independent Gain and Volume controls, while the 4-way Depth rotary adjusts low-end response. A Cut switch trims high frequencies and a Pre-gain Tone control allows for midrange sculpting.
Each unit is handwired and tested, mirroring the craftsmanship of vintage EF86 preamps. The circuit excels at jangle-prone cleans and dynamic mid-gain grit, making it ideal for players seeking vox-like chime or British-voiced drive.
